1. 国際会議の概要

The 21st MICROOPTICS CONFERENCE (MOC '16) was held in United States of America, for the first time in MOC history, on October 12 - October 14, 2016. The MOC conference started in 1987 and has been held every two years in Japan. Since 2004, it has been held alternately overseas and in Japan every year except 2012. MOC'04 was held in Jena, Germany as its 10th anniversary, followed by MOC'06 in Seoul, South Korea, MOC'08 in Brussels, Belgium, MOC'10 in Hsinchu, Taiwan, and ECIO-MOC 2014 in Nice, France.

The MOC '16 is intended to provide a central forum for an update and review of scientific and technical information covering a wide range of the microoptics field from fundamental researches to systems and applications. The conference covers the following subjects; theory, modeling and design, materials and fabrication, measurement and sensing, passive devices, active devices, dynamic and functional devices, integration and packaging, Si photonics, and system and design conception. The MOC '16 was organized by Microoptics Group, the Japan Society of Applied Physics, and was located at David Brower Center, Berkeley, CA, USA.

2. 研究テーマと討論内容

In the MOC conference, I got the very good question from the audience. They were really interested in our research. They asked me about the structure, the operation of this structure and the difference between the optical isolator compared with the poster beside my poster. I explained the material that I used in the structure, the function of core and cladding of materials and the operation of the optical isolator. After that, I answered their questions about the difference between my poster and another poster that my structure utilize a rib waveguide and another poster utilized a strip-loaded waveguide. The Ce:YIG is set for a cladding layer and amorphous silicon is set for core in my structure. This program had several colleague that consist of student, professor from university, person from industrial and staff. Everyone was interested in the same field, we could share the information of our research, knowledge, culture and experience. Meanwhile, this conference had several topics that were interesting not only poster session but also oral presentation session. I was interested in some topic in this program that gave a new knowledge for me and it could make an inspiration for doing the research in the future. For example, the topic of proposal of non-volatile waveguide optical memory using magneto-optical recording, silicon-waveguide multi-waveguide modulator based on Michelson interferometer, image correction method to enhance printing quality of electrophotography with LED print head and etc.
